Avelios aims to digitalize and optimize processes in hospitals. To this end, the startup founded in 2020 has developed a complete hospital information system (HIS). The operating system for intelligent patient care, which is oriented toward the working methods of doctors and nursing staff, aims to reduce documentation efforts and intelligently network patient data across sector boundaries.
The Munich startup’s platform covers the full scope of a HIS – from treatment documentation to administrative processes and a patient portal. The platform relies on the highest data protection and security standards. All data is stored exclusively in highly secure data centers in Europe or directly in the local infrastructure of customers. Thanks to a modular microservice architecture, clinics can flexibly adapt the system to the specific needs of their facilities and choose between a phased implementation and a one-step migration.
“Not for the faint of heart”
A system that has convinced investors once again: In addition to existing investors Revent and HTGF, Sequoia Capital is also participating in the Series A of over €30 million. Anas Biad, partner at Sequoia Capital, says:
“Developing a complete hospital information system, including documentation, administration, billing, patient portal and more, is not for the faint of heart. But that’s exactly what Avelios has created. We were amazed by the depth and breadth of the product and by the feedback from their customers, which includes some of Germany’s largest public and private hospitals. These exceptional founders and their team are delivering the modern operating system our healthcare system deserves.”
Avelios is already a central part of the digitalization strategies of some hospitals. Sana, one of Germany’s largest private hospital chains with 56 facilities, and university hospitals such as the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich Hospital or Hannover Medical School rely on Avelios software including the associated patient portal.
“Long-term thinking and sustainable innovation”
Sequoia Capital’s investment provides Avelios with the necessary capital and planning security to continue scaling its team and to support existing and future customers as they transform into a digital future. Christian Albrecht, co-founder of Avelios, says:
“Sequoia has deliberately moved away from the classic, short-term investment cycle and focuses on companies that solve fundamental problems. Digitalization of patient care requires long-term thinking and sustainable innovation. With Sequoia as a partner, we can deliver exactly that – a future-proof system.”
