Munich-based startup Sherpa has completed pre-seed funding of approximately 2 million euros (2.2 million dollars). With the capital, the company plans to further develop its AI-native platform for managing external workforce and AI agents and expand its use among large enterprises.

According to Sherpa, external workforce now makes up 30 to 50 percent of the workforce at many companies. Yet freelancers, consultants, and service providers are still often managed through traditional vendor management systems (VMS) or managed service providers (MSPs) – solutions that, in the startup’s view, no longer meet the requirements of modern enterprises.

This is where Sherpa comes in: The company develops a platform that brings together the entire process from commissioning through compliance to payment in one system. Unlike existing solutions, the software was designed from the outset for AI deployment and is intended to manage both human workers and AI agents in the future.

International investors participate

The funding round was led jointly by Seedcamp, DN Capital, Activant Capital, and Brighteye. Additionally, several experienced operator angels participated.

With the fresh capital, Sherpa plans to roll out its platform to additional enterprise customers, expand integrations with HR, ERP, and vendor management systems, and prepare for certifications such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Platform for the hybrid work world

According to the company’s assessment, the future will see not only employees and external service providers working together, but increasingly AI agents as well. This creates new requirements for control, compliance, and governance.

Sherpa aims to provide a shared infrastructure in which all work processes can be managed regardless of whether they are carried out by humans or AI systems. The startup places particular emphasis on data protection and data sovereignty, according to its own statements.

“The workforce of the future will not consist only of people. It will be a dynamic mix of employees, contractors, service providers, and AI agents working together. We believe that workforce management will evolve into intelligent orchestration of all work”,

says founder and CEO Tristan Deschler.

Sherpa is already working with Fortune 500 companies in Europe, the UK, and the US in pilot projects. Target industries include pharma, manufacturing, SaaS, and digital marketplaces.
