SmartAIs is working on a smartphone app for obstacle detection for blind and visually impaired people. The technology is based on computer vision and artificial intelligence. The app detects barriers and hazardous situations via mobile phone cameras and warns users with acoustic notifications.

The startup was founded in 2024 by Sascha Preget, Yamen Mohisn, Said Derbel, and Anika Watzka. Their vision: to improve the mobility of blind people. With the app, they should be able to move more safely in public spaces. Already in 2024, the young company received the German Mobility Prize in the category “Digital Transformation and AI”.

Sascha Preget, CEO of SmartAIs, explains:

“I am convinced that artificial intelligence will drastically change the lives of the blind community in the coming years. We want to be part of this transformation.”

SmartAIs plans market launch soon

Bayern Kapital is leading SmartAIs’ first funding round. In addition, private investors from the fields of artificial intelligence and augmented reality are participating. The exact amount of the investment is not known. The fresh capital is to flow into further development of the app. Extensive user testing and optimization of the AI models are planned. Market launch is scheduled for the coming months.
