The startup Wisefood gained prominence primarily through an appearance on “Die Höhle der Löwen”. In 2018, the Munich-based team first presented their edible straws there – then still under the name Eatapple. Although no deal was concluded at the time, the founders stuck with their idea, developed it further, and brought a whole range of additional sustainable products to market. Major customers like Aldi, Edeka, and Metro distribute the edible disposable products such as drinking straws, cups, and stirring sticks.
Right at the start of the new year, Wisefood announces its acquisition by palm leaf specialist Leef from Potsdam. This strengthens Leef’s position as a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions and expands its portfolio to include Wisefood’s product range. This is also expected to create synergies for expansion into the European market and the integration of e-commerce channels.
Philipp Silbernagel, founder and managing director of Wisefood, explains:
“We have been working successfully with LEEF in the palm leaf products sector for a long time – so we are all the happier to have found the right buyer in Leef.”
Leef’s CEO Claudio Vietta says:
“The acquisition of Wisefood is a significant milestone for us. Together, we are opening up new markets, expanding our range, and creating innovative, environmentally friendly solutions.”
Jens Christoph, second managing director of LEEF Holding, adds:
“The acquisition opens up new opportunities for us to jointly develop environmentally friendly solutions that not only inspire our customers but also protect the climate and environment.”
