KfW Startup Monitor 2024: Number of new business formations slightly increased
After a sharp decline of nine percent in the previous year, the number of new business formations in Germany increased slightly again in 2023. 568,000 people took the step into self-employment last year, as shown by the latest KfW Startup Monitor from KfW Research.
KfW Founding Monitor 2023: Decline in startups in Germany
The number of startups in Germany declined significantly in 2022 by 57,000 (-9 percent) to 550,000, as shown by the new KfW Founding Monitor from KfW Research. Overall, founding activity declined to 108 startups per 10,000 people aged 18–64, thus returning close to its historic low from the first corona year 2020 (104), after a brief recovery in 2021 (119).
Number of business start-ups declining significantly
The number of start-ups fell by 57,000 to 550,000 last year. This corresponds to a decrease of 9 percent.
