The Munich startup Reverion is the state winner Bavaria at the KfW Award Gründen 2025. Prof. Dr. Helmut Schönenberger, CEO of UnternehmerTUM and Vice President Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Munich, received the special prize for the VC Game Changer.

Munich-based cleantech startup Reverion is securing 56 million euros (62 million dollars) in its Series A round for the construction of its biogas plants. Energy Impact Partners (EIP) led the oversubscribed round together with Honda Xcelerator Ventures and the European Innovation Council Fund (EIC Fund).

The TUM Presidential Entrepreneurship Award was presented as part of the TUM Entrepreneurship Day. The winner this year is the energy startup Reverion. Planet A Foods and Robco also made it to the final round.

The Federal Agency for Leap Innovations has announced the participants in the second phase of the Sprind Challenge “Long-Duration Energy Storage”. Reverion from Munich is among the four selected startups.

Munich-based startup Reverion develops flexible power plants that convert biogas into electricity with very high efficiency – and can also reverse this process. UVC Partners, Green Generation Fund, Extantia Capital, Doral Energy-Tech Ventures, and biomethane trader Landwärme are now providing the startup with 8.5 million euros.

The Munich startup Reverion has developed a technology that achieves 80 percent efficiency in electricity generation from biogas. The process is also reversible, meaning it can use excess power from wind and sun for an electrolysis process. And the plants can also capture CO2 from the air.
