How Solation connects its tenant electricity business with social impact
The Munich-based startup Solation enables landlords to sell the solar electricity generated on their buildings directly to their tenants. But for founders Tim Howaldt, Sebastian Hugl, and Max Zeuke, it’s not just about business. They want to create social impact with their startup. Sebastian explains exactly how they achieve this in the interview.

Solation makes tenant electricity simple
The concept of tenant electricity involves delivering the electricity generated on the roof of a rental building or in its immediate vicinity directly to the tenants of the building. This way, the locally generated electricity from renewable sources is to be used on-site, which is intended not only to decentralize the power grid. Tenant electricity is also meant to be an incentive for landlords to install solar systems on the roofs of their buildings. However, high administrative hurdles make this difficult. The startup Solation has developed solutions for this – and simultaneously links tenant electricity with social engagement. In the interview, CEO and co-founder Sebastian Hugl reveals more about his company.
