The number of startups in Germany declined significantly in 2022 by 57,000 (-9 percent) to 550,000, as shown by the new KfW Founding Monitor from KfW Research. Overall, founding activity declined to 108 startups per 10,000 people aged 18–64, thus returning close to its historic low from the first corona year 2020 (104), after a brief recovery in 2021 (119).
