MietTiger

MietTiger is a legaltech company that enables tenants to assert claims for excessive rent simply, digitally, and without financial risk. Through our website, tenants can check in just a few minutes using an automated rent calculator whether their rent is too high according to legal requirements – particularly the rent cap under §§ 556d et seq. BGB – and whether they have claims for reimbursement. After a positive review, they can upload their lease and digitally assign their claims to MietTiger. Our system then automatically creates an individual notice of defect and enforces the claims nationwide against landlords as a registered debt collection agency. Our model combines digitalization, consumer protection, and access to justice: especially people who would not hire a lawyer due to cost concerns or hesitation now have a simple way to reduce their rent and claim back overpaid amounts. MietTiger operates entirely on a success basis: only in case of success do we retain 50% of the reimbursement claim and additionally assert the statutory RVG fee against the landlord. If there is no success, the tenant incurs no costs. The market is large and growing: in many German cities, rents are significantly above the permissible level, while the rent cap has been extended and thus remains a relevant legal framework for the long term. MietTiger is not limited to individual cities but integrates the rent indices of major cities where the rent cap applies. This creates a scalable, nationwide applicable legal-tech product with clear social value: MietTiger makes tenant protection simple, digital, and economically accessible – five-minute check, pay less rent in the future, and get money back.
