Severe obesity causes more than 400,000 deaths annually and society-wide costs exceeding 2 trillion dollars worldwide. Yet there is a lack of scalable, affordable, and easily accessible therapy. Sedivention’s idea is to develop a broadly applicable interventional therapy comparable to a gastroscopy. Hunger is one of the main drivers of overeating and obesity. Hunger is mediated to the brain via the vagus nerve. Sedivention is developing a cryoballoon that ablates the vagus nerve from the stomach. This outpatient intervention takes approximately 20 minutes, costs significantly less than gastric bypass surgery, and does so without the morbidity and complications. In short: Sedivention is developing the first effective and scalable therapy for obesity. No scars, no pain, no surgical complications, no access barriers, no implants at an affordable price.
