The Garching startup Planqc has won the German founder award 2025 in the startup category. The company convinced with its technology for quantum computers that bridge science and business.

The Munich-based quantum computing startup Planqc has opened its new company headquarters. In a former hardware store, the young company now develops and builds quantum computers across 1,400 square meters of renovated laboratory and office space. Several computers for government contractors are currently being built there.

Munich-based quantum computing startup Planqc has successfully completed its Series A funding round. The €50 million raised comes from both public and private funders.

Once a year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) selects 100 particularly promising startups that develop and implement new technologies and innovations. This year’s list of Tech Pioneers, which includes companies from around the world, also features four Munich startups.

Last year, quantum computing startup Planqc secured a 29 million euro contract from the DLR to build a quantum computer. Now the Munich-based company has reason to celebrate another major contract from the German Aerospace Center.

Not only international corporations like Google, IBM, or Honeywell are working on the development of quantum computers, but also numerous startups. One of them is Planqc from Munich. With the support of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and the Munich Quantum Valley, the startup aims to scale quantum computers to thousands of qubits and beyond. How Planqc plans to achieve this is explained by the startup in an interview.

The Munich startup Planqc develops digital quantum processors based on neutral atoms. Now it is to install a 100-qubit system for the German Aerospace Center (DLR) at the DLR Innovation Center in Ulm.

Planqc builds quantum computers that store information in individual atoms. The Munich startup has now secured the Amadeus APEX Technology Fund as an additional investor. With it, renowned entrepreneur Hermann Hauser is joining Planqc’s advisory board.
