Defence tech startup Arx Robotics is taking its next major expansion step. With a new production and development facility in southwest England and a new headquarters in London, the company is building its presence in the United Kingdom. The investment sum is 45 million pounds, with approximately 90 jobs expected to be created over the next 30 months.
Arx develops unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) with scalable hardware and modular software architecture. The systems are already in use with the German Armed Forces, in Ukraine, and along the NATO Eastern Flank. They serve reconnaissance, casualty transport, and combat support, among other functions. The new British production facility is expected to reach a capacity of up to 1,800 vehicles per year.
“By establishing a production facility in the United Kingdom, we are not only making an economic contribution, but also strengthening the technological sovereignty of both the United Kingdom and Europe. The United Kingdom is a key player in European security architecture and one of the closest partners of the European Union. Based on our engagement in Germany and Ukraine, our goal now is to ensure pan-European resilience and capability through modern technologies, autonomous systems, and digital warfare tactics,”
says Marc Wietfeld, CEO of Arx Robotics.
Arx Robotics aims to strengthen European defence industry
With this expansion, the startup is pursuing the goal of strengthening European defence capabilities through technological independence. Collaboration with British partner companies – particularly innovative SMEs – is intended to create a strong industrial network. The company’s systems are currently being tested with the British Armed Forces to adapt them to their operational requirements.
British Defence Secretary John Healey emphasises:
“Arx stands for modern defence technology. I fully welcome the investment of 45 million pounds – it creates high-quality jobs while strengthening Europe’s security situation. With our goal to invest 2.5% of GDP in defence from 2027 onwards, we are building Britain into an industrial defence power – based on innovation, partnership, and industrial strength.”
In addition to systems integration, Arx also offers technical training and logistics services. In the future, the defence tech company plans to further expand its research and development activities in the United Kingdom and develop systems precisely tailored to the operational requirements of British Armed Forces. David Roberts takes the lead of UK operations as CEO of Arx UK, and Nick Bowler heads Mission Operations. Roberts explains:
“I am delighted to lead Arx’s expansion in the United Kingdom. Our systems not only provide the British Armed Forces with an immediately deployable capability advantage, but also form an open integration platform – together with British technology partners in the fields of sensors, effects systems, and operational tactics. With Mithra OS as the digital backbone, we are bringing scalable autonomy not only to our own vehicles, but also to existing combat vehicles.”
