It will be without doubt THE highlight in this winter term: Bill Gates and Federal Minister Dr. Gerd Müller will be our guests at the TUM Audimax on February 17th! The co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development are going to talk about their joint efforts in making the world a more equal and better developed place.
The topic of the dialogue is „Shaping global development – Innovative concepts with Africa“ and addresses some of the most important issues for the future of our planet. It is organized as side-event of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) and in Cooperation with the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Global Perspectives Initiative.
About Bill Gates:
Bill Gates is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Along with co-chair Melinda Gates, they work together in their philanthropic efforts to expand opportunity to the world’s most disadvantaged people by collaborating with grantees and partners.
In 1975, Gates left Harvard University in his junior year to focus on Microsoft, the company he founded with his childhood friend Paul Allen. As chief software architect and chairman, Gates led the company to become the worldwide leader in business and personal software, services, and solutions. In July 2008, Gates transitioned into a new role as chairman of Microsoft and advisor on some key development projects.
Gates also founded Corbis, which is developing a comprehensive digital archive of art and photography from public and private collections around the globe. He is a member of the board of directors of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
About Federal Minister Dr. Gerd Müller:
In 1978, at the age of 21, Dr. Gerd Müller became deputy mayor of Krumbach and was in office until 1988. Müller already began his task as deputy head at the Office for Foreign Relations of the Hanns-Seidel Foundation in 1980.
From 1989 to 1994, Müller was a member of the European Parliament, where he was the parliamentary managing director of CDU/CSU. Since 1994, Müller is a member of the German Bundestag and represents the constituency of Oberallgäu. He furthermore is a member of the European, Foreign and Defense policy committee, as well as spokesman for European, foreign and development affairs in the CSU national group.
On the 17th of December 2013, Müller was appointed as the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development within the cabinet Merkel III.
