Regular intake of prescribed medication is crucial for the success of therapy. The Munich-based startup smartpatient and offers the MyTherapy app for this purpose. This is intended to serve as a tool for increasing therapy adherence in everyday patient care. To make the app even more effective, it has now been enhanced with another function.
A survey of MyTherapy users conducted in April revealed an interesting, but not entirely surprising, factor in regular medication adherence: family. The survey revealed that one in three users relies on family support for regular medication adherence, despite the app's support.
Smartpatient took this insight into account and added a new feature to the app: With the new “Team” feature in MyTherapy version 3.0, patients can now keep their relatives up to date and be reminded and motivated by them directly via their smartphone.
Founder Sebastian Gaede says:
"For many of our users, it's motivating to give their family insight into their medication habits. And if they do forget to take a dose, they appreciate their daughter's call."
The user is no longer left to fend for themselves, but can connect with their family within the app and share their medication intake with them. This gives the family an overview of the medications taken, encourages the user to take them regularly, or reminds them to do so – all regardless of the patient's or other family members' location and time.
The fact that MyTherapy is effective in reminding patients to take their medication has already been confirmed in studies with the Charité in Berlin: By using MyTherapy, patients took their medication more regularly and felt better overall.
Important: MyTherapy's team function emphasizes user autonomy and anonymity. The user decides whether to use the function and who they want to support. The team function is available for both iOS as well as the Android Version of MyTherapy available.
