Isar Aerospace has completed a Series D financing round of 270 million euros. Beyond the amount, the strategic orientation is particularly exciting, as Isar Aerospace is once again positioning itself as an infrastructure provider for European and allied space sovereignty.

In a market where Europe conducted significantly fewer orbital launches than the United States in 2025, reliable access to small and medium-sized satellite launches is becoming increasingly relevant from security and industrial policy perspectives. The numbers make this even clearer: while Europe conducted fewer than ten orbital launches in 2025, the United States conducted more than 190.

Moreover, Isar Aerospace is the only private European company building the necessary capacity and infrastructure for this. Demand reflects this. Currently, 60 percent of all inquiries to Isar Aerospace over the last twelve months come from government sources, whereas demand previously came primarily from the commercial sector.

Where does the capital come from?

New investors in the 270 million euro round include Island Green Capital and Molten Ventures. Existing funders such as HV Capital, Lakestar, UVC Partners, and KfW Capital also participated. The capital is primarily intended to flow into scaling up production. According to the company, the new factory in Parsdorf near Munich is designed for up to 40 Spectrum launch vehicles per year. A high degree of automation and consistent vertical integration enable development, manufacturing, and testing to be handled almost entirely in-house.

What will the capital be used for?

Numerous milestones have marked recent weeks. With the new financing round, the path is now clear for the next strategic steps. Following the first launch site in Norwegian Andøya, Isar Aerospace plans to establish another facility in Canada. A memorandum of understanding with Maritime Launch Services identifies Spaceport Nova Scotia in Canso as a potential second launch base and has already been signed.

This would enable Isar Aerospace to meet different orbital requirements for commercial and government customers in the future, including Earth observation, communications, and security-relevant missions.

In parallel, Isar Aerospace is preparing the launch of its qualification flight “Onward and Upward,” which will carry five CubeSats and an experiment for the ESA’s “Boost!” program on board. The launch window is open from June 15 to 21. The launch will take place from the company’s own launch complex at Andøya Space, subject to weather conditions, security situation, and launch site availability.

Defense, NATO, and space sovereignty come into focus

Co-founder and CEO of Isar Aerospace Daniel Metzler says:

“Space is no longer uncharted territory – it is the foundation of government capabilities. With the strategic support of our investors, we enable state and commercial customers worldwide to access space using our launch systems.”

The company emphasizes that demand is shifting strongly toward defense. In the Sparta 2.0 report published in May 2026, sovereign European access to space is cited as a critical capability gap for Europe that must be addressed on the path to independent action.
