Dock Financial was regarded as a rising star in the Munich fintech scene. The company developed tailored financial solutions for various industries and supported its partners in integrating financial features. With the acquisitions of Paydora and Compeon, the startup had attracted attention in the past.
Nevertheless, the young company failed to raise fresh venture capital. At the end of May 2024, both Dock Financial GmbH and the associated Dock Financial Capital GmbH filed for preliminary insolvency. In the following months, both entities opened their respective insolvency proceedings. The Munich Regional Court appointed attorneys Marlene Scheinert and Ivo-Meinert Willrodt from Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH as insolvency administrators.
The fintech has now apparently found a buyer in Rakuten. The Japanese technology conglomerate is securing the technology of Dock Financial. This is reported by Manager Magazin citing information from the company environment. Rakuten also operates a bank in Europe and apparently plans to expand it with the acquired technology.
Some of the employees also reportedly switched to Rakuten as part of the acquisition. For the team around CEO Marko Wenthin, the deal is a partial success, as it secured a prominent buyer for key company assets.
