Bayern Kapital is investing in Munich Quantum Instruments (MQI) as part of a pre-seed financing round. The Munich deeptech startup, which develops scalable photonic quantum sensors, is receiving a mid-six-figure amount through the financing. In addition to Bayern Kapital, Vetos GmbH, DI Beteiligungs GmbH, and WN Invest GmbH are also participating as co-investors.
15 years of research experience at Munich Quantum Instruments
MQI was founded in 2022 and specializes in single-photon detectors, which are measuring instruments for detecting light particles (photons). This technology is a key component in applications for quantum communication, quantum computing, and optical quantum sensing. The sensors developed by MQI combine high quality with industrial scalability and enable cost-efficient production.
The MQI founding team brings over 15 years of research experience in quantum sensing and combines this expertise with industrial knowledge and startup competence. According to the investors, this combination provides a solid foundation for the company’s long-term success.
Growth-strong industry
The market environment is considered dynamic and growth-oriented: the quantum industry is still in its early stages but is developing rapidly. Startups like MQI have the opportunity in this environment to position themselves early with technological innovation and excellent teams.
Another success factor is the consortium of experienced business angels that comes on board with the pre-seed round. In addition to capital, the investors bring strategic support and industry expertise to the company.
“We congratulate the entire team around Andreas Vetter and Sven Ernst on this important milestone and look forward to accompanying the company’s further development,”
Bayern Kapital said in a statement.
