Pixel Robotics prevailed in the pitch competition at Bits & Pretzels as Munich’s most successful startup against approximately 20 other startups from the state capital and thereby receives the Munich Startup Award 2022, which comes with a prize of 5,000 euros.
Pixel Robotics builds intelligent, perception-controlled robots tailored for intralogistics. Using an AI vision infrastructure, a digital twin of the operational area is created. Based on this real-time twin, the Munich startup’s robots can work autonomously with their human colleagues. The company was founded in 2020 by Johannes and Valentin Plapp. So far, the founders have bootstrapped the company, but they are currently looking for investors.
Award ceremony at Oktoberfest
The presentation of the Munich Startup Award took place – as it had in previous years – at Oktoberfest, where the founder festival Bits & Pretzels traditionally concludes with a networking meeting of all participants. On the stage of the Schottenhamel beer tent, Munich’s economic affairs director and Oktoberfest chief Clemens Baumgärtner honored this year’s winning team and said:
“One of the most important success factors for innovative startups is the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences in strong networks. In addition to excellent location factors, Munich offers excellent start-up and growth conditions for young companies with its well-established startup ecosystem.”
In addition to the award, Pixel Robotics receives prize money of 5,000 euros, donated by Munich Startup. The presentation of the Munich Startup Award is intended to help make the innovation strength of Munich’s startups more visible.
“The prize money will be invested in the team”
Oskar Gruber from Pixel Robotics is delighted about the Munich Startup Award:
“The Bits & Pretzels and the pitch competition were an amazing experience in themselves. The fact that we’re now also winning the Munich Startup Award makes us even happier, of course. We’ll invest the prize money partly in the team, because over the last two years we were mainly focused on product development to get it to market – that’s something we need to celebrate now. And part of the money – well, we’re a startup after all – will go directly back into the product.”
And what are the next plans for Pixel Robotics?
“We’ve put a lot of energy into the product and the go-lives with our first customers. Now we have a finished product that we can roll out on the market. We’re now focusing on acquiring more customers so that our robot can be used in even more warehouses.”
The Munich Startup Award has been presented since 2016 as part of Bits & Pretzels. Previous award winners include the Munich startups Inveox, Catchys, and Cleverciti.
