The goal of Circular Republic is to decouple value creation from resource consumption. Specifically, companies and startups are supported in further developing their innovations and ideas for the circular economy in a market-ready manner and converting them into concrete business models. Additionally, the initiative connects companies and startups with relevant actors from science, industry, and the venture capital sector. The first partner companies include BMW, SAP, Prezero, and Tengelmann.
“Large number of startups dealing with circular economy”
The initiative’s first project focuses on the textile industry, which has so far reused only few resources. A subsequent project deals with the circular management of batteries.
Matthias Ballweg, co-founder and director of Circular Republic, says:
“Global developments around climate, scarce resources, or supply bottlenecks, as well as the resulting regulatory consequences, make one thing clear: in the 2030s of this century, there will be no successful business model that is based on the exploitation of primary raw materials. The circular economy will be the key to solving the climate crisis and at the same time the driving force for innovation and prosperity in Europe. The large number of startups dealing with circular economy – we have identified almost 400 of them in Germany alone – is another indicator that the future lies here.”
