Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem do you solve?
Jörg Überla: Due to the energy crisis and sharply rising energy costs, many property owners are focusing on energy-efficient renovations. We developed a platform that supports property owners on their path to climate neutrality – from researching possible renovation measures to actual implementation with experts. Our mission: we want to make climate neutrality the standard in existing real estate.
42watt: “Structuring rapid growth well”
Munich Startup: But that’s already been done for a long time!
Jörg Überla: There is a nationwide list of independent energy efficiency experts who advise property owners in this process. However, most of them have no free capacity, which can lead to waiting times of several months. Our customers, on the other hand, receive consulting from us – for example, an individual renovation roadmap – within 10 days of submitting the required documents.
Munich Startup: What is your founding story?
Jörg Überla: Our founder Marcus Dietmann approached me as a potential business angel. I found the topic so exciting that I wanted to help operationally as well. After a trial month, we quickly decided to pursue the topic together. Also because in the face of the energy crisis and global warming, we don’t have much time – and existing real estate makes an important contribution to achieving climate goals.
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Jörg Überla: Our biggest challenge is structuring our rapid growth well. In this phase, many mistakes can happen that you have to pay dearly for later. Since this is not our first startup, we hope to avoid some of them.
“There are good reasons why Munich ranks very well in city rankings”
Munich Startup: How is business going?
Jörg Überla: Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific figures here. But since the topic is of interest to all property owners and we offer an attractive solution, we are growing very quickly.
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?
Jörg Überla: Very positively. There are good reasons why Munich generally ranks very well in city rankings. An increasingly strong ecosystem of investors and startups makes it very attractive for us as well.
Munich Startup: Quick exit or long-term vision?
Jörg Überla: Long-term vision. The topic of energy-efficient renovation of real estate will occupy our society for decades to come, and we want to become the leading provider with 42watt. Our vision: to enable every property owner to be climate neutral.
