The Munich startup DeltaVision develops and produces intelligent, cryogenic fluid management systems. These can be used in space exploration as well as in H2 mobility applications. We spoke with the spacetech company.

DeltaVision was founded in 2022 by Denis Kiefel, Alex Plebuch and Matthias Günther. The startup’s product portfolio includes solenoid valves, pressure valves and electromechanical pressure regulators used for regulating cryogenic and high-pressure liquids. These include methane and liquid hydrogen, which are used as rocket fuel, and oxygen, which serves as an oxidizer. In addition, there are technologies for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of valves and intelligent standardization.

Besides their use in space exploration, the components can also be used in mobility applications. This allows the startup to support the role of hydrogen in mobility transformation, from use in trucks to H2-powered aircraft.

Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem do you solve?

DeltaVision: We specialize in valves, pumps, pressure regulators and more – essentially the circulatory system of future rockets, spacecraft, space stations and aircraft. This technology is challenging and we’re bringing it to a new, commercial level that globally only exists at most in the US.

Munich Startup: But that’s already existed for a long time!

DeltaVision: Electric cars existed before Tesla too.

Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?

DeltaVision: We developed very specialized solutions for major European space programs in this field and realized that systematic solutions were needed. That’s what we provide – and soon we’ll be leading globally.

Munich Startup: What were your biggest challenges so far?

DeltaVision: Our first major product shipment was prototypes of main valves for a cryogenic engine of a lunar lander. Absolutely at the edge of physics.

Munich Startup: Where do you want to stand in one year, where in five years?

DeltaVision: In one year we’ll have products in space, and in 5 years we’ll be active globally and a hidden champion.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

DeltaVision: The location is strong – lots of talent and lots of opportunities.

Munich Startup: Risk or security?

DeltaVision: Team risk, like all startups.
