The Bitkom-Ifo digital index measures the current business situation in the digital sector, business expectations for the coming months, and the combined index of both values. Business expectations in the IT and telecommunications industry have developed positively of late and are rising by 2.6 points to the now positive value of 2.0 points. Business situation climbs in January by 1.2 points to now 36.4 points. Business climate reaches 18.5 points in January, compared to 16.6 points in December 2022 and just 5.9 points in November.
“Signs in the digital sector point to growth again”
Bitkom President Achim Berg says:
“The signs in the digital sector point to growth again. This is good news for Germany as a business location overall, because with 1.35 million employees, IT and telecommunications companies are a significant employer.”
For the overall economy, the Ifo Institute reports a business climate of -2.9 points, which remains in negative territory. Business situation is assessed at 14.4 points, slightly worse than the previous month when it was at 15.2 points. Meanwhile, business expectations in the overall economy recover slightly from -25.6 to -18.8 points, but remain clearly in the negative.
