Two of three innovation prizes are going to Munich this year: In the mid-market category, the Munich-based company Ecog takes the top prize. Deepdrive wins in the startup category.
From startup to mid-market company
Since 2017, Ecog has been providing software technology solutions for charging station manufacturers. This allows cost-efficient development of fast-charging stations – so-called DC charging stations – for electric vehicles. The charging technology and operating system solution can be deployed modularly as a hardware-software or software-only solution. The software can be updated remotely and electric vehicles can feed power back into the grid. More than 30 different types of charging columns already use the Munich company’s operating system.

Innovation Prize honors e-mobility startups
Deepdrive has developed and patented a so-called dual rotor radial flux motor that can be installed as a central drive and also as a wheel hub drive in series production vehicles. With it, a vehicle should be able to travel 20 percent further, or require 20 percent smaller batteries for the same range. Additionally, the motor should require fewer rare earths in manufacturing for the same power output. With its motor, the startup has already won various prizes – such as the title “Best Munich Startup” in 2023. Now comes the German Innovation Prize 2024.
The German Innovation Prize is awarded by Accenture, EnBW, O2 Telefónica, and WirtschaftsWoche. Companies can apply in the categories of startups, mid-market companies, and large enterprises whose innovations are already successful on the market. In addition to product innovations, innovative business models, processes and services as well as organizational and marketing innovations are also honored. Eligible to participate are companies with their registered office in Germany. Furthermore, the innovations must already be successful on the market and predominantly developed domestically.
