Munich Startup: What does Ecoplanet do? What problem are you solving?
Maximilian Dekorsy, founder and CEO of Ecoplanet: We offer SaaS solutions for analyzing and optimizing energy management and procurement. With our Ecoplanet cockpit, customers benefit from two things: compliant energy management and intelligent supply. Our customers save considerable costs and CO2 emissions – in particular, reducing energy costs is essential for companies in the current market environment.
Munich Startup: But that already exists, doesn’t it?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Not in this form. Companies have historically tried to measure energy consumption, optimize it, and buy strategically. But always with the help of traditional offerings (including consultants) and without the two elements being optimized holistically. In our software, we integrate consumption and supply, resulting in even greater savings than previously possible. Our artificial intelligence also ensures that the optimization potential for companies is much more innovative and long-term than before.
Energy transition as a challenge for mid-market companies
Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Henry and I were already good friends before Ecoplanet and often discussed the challenges faced by mid-market companies. At the end of 2021, we started discussing things more concretely and identified the energy transition as the biggest next challenge for these companies – but the companies are not prepared to tackle this new challenge alongside all their other complexities. In mid-2022, we founded Ecoplanet and presented our first product in December 2022. Our cockpit serves as the energy expert in the company, someone our customers often can’t afford or don’t want to hire.
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Particularly in our field, the constantly changing regulatory landscape is certainly one of the biggest challenges for our customers, but also for us. With our cockpit, we address all the challenges in the energy sector for our customers – regulations and new legislation take up a significant portion of our customers’ business concerns. We ourselves employ certified staff who constantly monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on our customer base.
Ecoplanet: An opportunity to shape the energy transition
Munich Startup: Where do you want to stand in one year, where in five years?
Maximilian Dekorsy: The current situation is a huge opportunity for everyone who wants to shape the energy transition. We now have the opportunity to contribute to helping companies position themselves successfully for the long term and keeping the German economy strong. With Ecoplanet, we want to help our customers stabilize their economic situation so that as quickly as possible they reach a point where the energy transition is at the center of their operations and is part of their daily reality.
Munich Startup: How have you experienced the Munich startup ecosystem so far?
Maximilian Dekorsy: For us, Munich offers a very good mix of strong economic structures, excellent educational and research institutions, and a large network of investors and energy experts. But because Munich is also home for us, we have ideal conditions here for building and growing Ecoplanet.
Munich Startup: Quick exit or long-term commitment?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Long-term commitment! With the topic of energy transition, we have certainly chosen one of the most comprehensive and therefore long-term themes as our focus. We are convinced that sustainability and economic success can go hand in hand. This applies not only to our customers, but also to us.
