Munich-based foodtech provider Foodji is expanding its presence in southern Germany: since May, the company has been active in Augsburg. Aircraft manufacturer Airbus is among the region’s first customers, using Foodji machines at several other German locations to provide meals for its shift workers.

Foodji has developed an intelligent food vending machine that offers companies an affordable and flexible alternative to traditional workplace catering. Businesses in particular, for which operating their own canteen is not worthwhile, benefit from it. Using AI-powered software and an automated supply chain, the smart machines provide freshly prepared meals around the clock.

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus relies on Foodji

Since this month, the startup has been supplying Augsburg businesses with healthy and balanced meals. Among the first local customers is aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which already uses the machines at several German locations. Ole Stechert, who is responsible for workplace catering as Head of Catering, Food & Beverage Management at Airbus in Germany, says:

“Foodji’s flexible catering concept has proven absolutely worthwhile for us. We understand employee catering as a central component of individual well-being – and thus as the foundation for the motivation, productivity and satisfaction of our employees. Against this background, we are all the more pleased to be able to offer them comprehensive catering around the clock at our Augsburg location as well. Foodji has proven to be an optimal supplement to our canteens.”

With its move to Augsburg, Foodji aims to strengthen its market position in southern Germany. Thorsten Schaar, Vice President Sales at Foodji, explains:

“The city stands out as an economically strong location with industrial diversity – from mechanical engineering including robotics and automation, to environmental technology to logistics. It thus combines economic dynamism with a strong industrial foundation. Its convenient location between Munich, Nuremberg and Ulm makes Augsburg an ideal starting point to expand our supply network further in due course. We are focusing especially on the many medium-sized businesses in the region whose employees have so far often lacked access to balanced meals at work. In addition, we also have larger companies in mind, where our solution can meaningfully supplement or even replace existing workplace restaurants.”

Growth trajectory continues

The signs at Foodji point to growth. In January 2025, the company announced an expansion of its Series A funding and extended its availability to the Hanover location. The fresh capital flows into scaling the business model and underscores the ambition to assume a leading role in the intelligent employee catering market.
