The Munich startup Gutfeel offers B2C companies digital testing with the Gen Z market that customers can start quickly and cost-effectively. The idea came from a university project with which the team already won the Strascheg Award in 2021. In 2023, Gutfeel was officially founded by Marius Greubel and Dominik Grauer with an Exist funding grant.

Munich Startup: What does Gutfeel do? What problem are you solving?

Marius Greubel, Gutfeel: We conduct market research with Gen Z via app. This increasingly important target group is very difficult to reach through conventional market research solutions and is underrepresented. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to specifically address young people with our solution. With a DIY approach, we enable our customers to obtain market feedback from Gen Z within a few hours and already for three-digit amounts.

Goal: Largest Gen Z community for market feedback

Munich Startup: But that already exists, doesn’t it!

Marius Greubel: Gutfeel is a specialist for Gen Z. Our incentive system is specifically designed for young people, which makes survey participation interactive and exciting. This makes the topic of “surveys and market research,” which is rather dry in this generation, attractive to teenagers and young adults.

Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?

Marius Greubel: Dominik and I met in the Master’s program “Entrepreneurship and Digital Transformation” at the Hochschule München in collaboration with the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship. After two years of weekend and evening projects, some pivots, sleepless nights and the approval for the Exist founder grant, we’ve been working full-time on Gutfeel since November 2022 and managed market entry in June 2023.

Founding as a team: like a marriage

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Marius Greubel: Finding a co-founder is always a challenge because it feels like a marriage you’re entering into. Everything has to fit in every way. Financial uncertainty as a founder is another one. But as long as time isn’t pressing yet, we accept the current status. Guided by one of our values “Trust the process and your gut feeling,” we just keep going and do our best!

Munich Startup: Where do you want to be in one year, where in five years?

Marius Greubel: We’re very satisfied with the results of our first pilot projects. We’re generating revenue and our app community is growing bit by bit. In the next step, we want to gain more experience in the market and get to know our customers even better. The goal is to maximize the added value we can generate through market feedback.

Gutfeel: Very satisfied with pilot project

Marius Greubel: In the long term, however, we pursue the vision of building the largest Gen Z community for market feedback in the German-speaking world, giving every consumer a voice, and making this young and increasingly attractive market accessible to all companies.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Marius Greubel: As extremely vibrant, with many smart minds, creative thinkers and especially support from various organizations. Can highly recommend!

Munich Startup: Public transport or bike?

Marius Greubel: Bike! Last month’s Google statistics say I spent 356 km in the saddle.
