Last May, the Munich startup announced an expansion of its pre-seed round, now Planetics is announcing its acquisition by Khulula. The Planetics.de platform, a marketplace for sustainable sports products, is to continue operating, but Planetics founders Raphael Breitner, Fabian Hörst and Alexandros Taflanidis are stepping back from the company.

At the end of March, Planetics announced that it was looking for a strategic partner to take over the platform. Over the past two months, discussions were held with various interested parties. Fabian Hörst, co-founder and managing director of Planetics, comments on this:

“We were very positively surprised by the tremendous support from customers, business partners, and other stakeholders when we communicated our situation. But the number of interested parties was also higher than expected.”

Planetics continues to exist

Ultimately, an agreement was reached with Khulula. The company develops its own products from natural fiber composites and advises associations and businesses on their path to greater sustainability.

“Right from the beginning of the exchange, there was a very trustworthy atmosphere, characterized above all by openness from both sides. This helped us reach agreement quickly. The process was always fair and transparent, which we often experienced differently in the past. For us founders, in addition to the commercial component, it was equally important that Planetics and what we created could continue to exist. We found all of this in Khulula, which is why we agreed to it – together with our partners”,

explains Fabian Hörst.

Specifically, this means that Khulula is taking over all significant assets for the continued operation of Planetics.de. However, the founding trio of Alexandros Taflanidis, Fabian Hörst, and Raphael Breitner will no longer be involved in the company.

“More sports, more sustainability, even more impact”

Holger Ambroselli, co-founder and managing director of Khulula, comments on the completed deal and at the same time provides an initial insight into Khulula’s plans for Planetics.de:

“We are very happy to have the chance to take over such a great platform. Both companies share the same vision of sustainably transforming the sports industry for the benefit of the planet. That’s why we will take over Planetics as it is and gradually expand it with additional topics. One topic will be outdoor sports, which is anchored in our DNA and was a major motivation for Simon and me when founding Khulula. In that sense, you could also say: more sports, more sustainability, even more impact! We look forward very much to this new challenge and remain open to new ideas and support, because we are fully aware of how difficult the online market currently is.”
