Energyminer aims for nothing less than to revolutionize hydropower. The startup’s patented technology generates electricity using mini hydroelectric plants in rivers – without negatively affecting the water flow and the habitat of animals and plants. In an interview with Munich Startup, the founding team explains:
“Our hydroelectric plants keep rivers in their natural form or, with our systems, enable renaturalization while simultaneously generating electricity from hydropower. Fish are protected 100 percent and can pass our systems undisturbed. The systems float in the river. You can think of it simply as a small windmill with a protective frame in the water. Installation is completely without concrete or dams.”
Energyminer: increasing visibility for investors
Richard Eckl, CEO of Energyminer, commented on winning the Munich Business Plan Competition:
“By participating in the competition, we want to increase the visibility of our startup to investors and promote our Series A funding round. The feedback from the experienced jury is very helpful for continued development. We ourselves have been active in the startup scene for over 10 years, and Baystartup is one of the most important institutions for founders in Bavaria.”
Second place goes to medtech startup Sedivention. The team aims to treat obesity and facilitate weight loss with a novel catheter that ablates nerve fibers in the stomach on an outpatient, non-invasive basis. Third place was awarded by the jury to Baind. The company develops a greentech solution for commercial real estate and enables energy and CO2 savings through AI-based control of heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and shading.
Fabian Brunner, head of the Munich Business Plan Competition at Baystartup, was satisfied with the jury’s decisions:
“Environmentally friendly and novel electricity generation from hydropower, artificial intelligence in building management, and a technology that significantly improves the lives of those suffering from pathological obesity: the winning startups have the potential with their future-oriented high-tech solutions to soon have a major impact on our economy. The five other nominees in the fields of sensors, 3D printing, energy trading, PropTech, and environmental reporting have also presented strong concepts with real market opportunities.”
The following startups were also nominated in the final:
- Additive Electronics electrifies 3D printing and offers 3D printers, development software, and inks for additively manufactured 3D freeform electronics for electronic components, enabling innovative component designs and functionalities.
- Einwert streamlines the real estate valuation process and delivers appraisals of the highest quality.
- Harmonize combines biotechnologies and artificial intelligence with its “Flavor Engineering Technology” to make food taste measurable and digitally controllable for the first time. Manufacturers can thus precisely design the taste of food products.
- Otter Energy Trading enables companies to profitably market their self-generated solar power across various channels using smart software.
- The Telusio team enables automated quantification of product carbon footprint. The software relies on smart integration of existing data from core systems (e.g., ERP systems) with supplier data and CO2 databases.
