#Munich Startup Recap#Weekly Wrap-up
Francesco Sciortino, CEO of Proxima Fusion at the MSC Startup Hub
Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible: Fusion – that sounds like massive research facilities, decades of development time, and billion-dollar state projects. Francesco Sciortino wants to change that. With Proxima Fusion, he’s building a startup in Munich that will bring nuclear fusion from basic research into industry – with the goal of realizing the first proprietary fusion power plant in the 2030s. As part of the MSC Startup Hub, we spoke with the CEO. About a technological turning point, about billion-dollar investments, and why fusion is suddenly becoming startup-viable. Sushi Bikes
Sushi Bikes saved? The bicycle startup Sushi Bikes has been sold following insolvency proceedings. A newly founded company of Wealth Collect Holding is continuing the brand and business operations. Andreas Weinzierl, founder and managing director of Sushi Bikes, says: “True substance doesn’t show in the first wave of success, but in how you come out of a valley.” (Photo: Sushi Bikes)
Jana Krotsch, CEO of Ubimaster as guest at Munich Startup Studio with Kyrill Ring
Free tutoring for everyone: Education determines life chances and is still heavily dependent on social background in Germany. That’s exactly what Jana Krotsch wanted to change. In 2018, she founded Ubimaster – with an idea that originated at her own kitchen table and today reaches hundreds of thousands of students. In the Pitch & People videocast, the founder and CEO talks about courage, persistence, and why she gave up her secure job to rethink education. (Photo: Munich Startup)
Quantum Systems
Quantum Systems plans to go public: The Munich defense startup Quantum Systems has completed long-term financing totaling 150 million euros. 70 million euros come from a loan from the European Investment Bank. Additional funds come from Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, and KfW, the companies announced a few days before the start of Münchner Sicherheitskonferenz. A debut on the Frankfurt stock exchange could come as early as the beginning of next year, reports Handelsblatt.

Munich dominates Europe: The “triple” in the Financial Times Ranking 2026: What a bombshell for our Isar metropolis! In the brand new “Europe’s Leading Startup Hubs” ranking from Financial Times and Statista, Munich has not only defended its leading position but expanded it impressively. With UnternehmerTUM at the top, Start2 Group in second place, and BayStartUP in third place, Munich proves: if you want to found a successful business in Europe, you can’t get around our ecosystem.
