Orbem announces the closing of a Series B financing round worth €55.5 million. Dutch deeptech investor Innovation Industries is leading the round. Additionally, French venture capital fund Supernova Invest and existing investors General Catalyst, 83North, The Venture Collective, and several angel investors are participating. With this capital, Orbem is advancing its international expansion and the further development of its AI-powered MRI technology.

Orbem develops a solution that aims to make magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) fast, affordable, and scalable for industrial applications. The company enables non-invasive analysis of biological materials on a large scale and is simultaneously building a comprehensive biological dataset. In the poultry industry, Orbem is one of the leading providers in in-ovo sexing across Europe. Additionally, the startup launched another product last year that detects the fertilization status of eggs before incubation.

Proven technology for the poultry industry

With its flagship product Genus Focus, Orbem visualizes the internal structures of an egg using AI-powered MRI. The system determines the sex of an embryo in less than a second and completely avoids invasive procedures. Orbem thus provides an animal-friendly alternative to practices that face ethical and legal criticism. Additionally, the company launched Genus Scale, a solution that identifies unfertilized eggs early. Hatcheries reduce food waste, save incubator capacity, and generate additional revenue streams.

Expansion and new markets in focus

With the Series B funding, Orbem is accelerating its expansion, particularly into the United States. The company already opened an office in Houston, Texas in 2025. Beyond this, Orbem plans to expand its platform for the poultry industry and is working on applications for plant-based agricultural products such as avocados, mangos, and watermelons. In the long term, Orbem also aims to deploy its technology in healthcare.

Pedro Gómez, co-founder and CEO of Orbem, explains:

“We are the first and currently only company in the world that enables the use of MRI in less than a second without human intervention. It all started with the poultry industry, where we first provided information hidden deep within eggshells. But that was just the beginning. This new funding round allows us to accelerate our US expansion and help more food producers and soon health service providers make better, data-driven decisions. Our scalable platform and rapidly growing biological dataset provide the perfect foundation for this. We are proud of the confidence our investors place in us and our vision to make the invisible visible.”

Pleuni Hooijman, Investment Manager at Innovation Industries, comments:

“Orbem is truly extraordinary. Few companies manage to make such complex technology accessible and scalable across so many industries. With its platform, Orbem is already transforming entire sectors. We are delighted to support Orbem on this journey.”

And Michaël Thomas, Investment Director at Supernova Invest, adds:

“We are incredibly excited to join forces with Orbem – a visionary company that perfectly embodies European deeptech excellence. By combining cutting-edge AI and MRI technologies, Orbem delivers concrete solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time: the company combats animal suffering, food waste, and builds a more sustainable global food system. Our investment underscores our conviction that Europe can lead in physical AI by transforming scientific breakthroughs into significant industrial innovations.”
