Phelas specializes in developing liquid air energy storage technology tailored for integration with renewable energy sources. The so-called Aurora long-term energy storage is designed to advance the energy transition. It stores electricity generated from renewable sources locally and makes it available around the clock. In addition, the startup offers its Catalyst Service, a software-based consulting tool that helps energy providers and renewable energy developers make decisions about technology deployment.
New manufacturing expert on board
As the Munich-based company now announces, it is appointing Roger Lammin, former Senior Director at SpaceX, to its Advisory Board. Lammin, a renowned manufacturing expert with over 40 years of experience at companies including Nestlé and BMW, worked at SpaceX from 2012 to 2019. During that time, he was instrumental in building the manufacturing operations for the Falcon 9 rocket, according to his own account.
His expertise in manufacturing and rapid development, production, and iteration of complex hardware is intended to help Phelas on its journey toward its vision of a future with 100 percent renewable energy.
Successful seed round in March
At the beginning of the year, the Munich-based startup successfully completed its seed round of €4.1 million. The round was led by Israeli climatetech fund E44 Ventures. The funding also included participation from Axon Partners Group, Deutsche Telekom Hubraum, BNV Partners, and other unnamed investors.
The funds from the financing round are intended to further develop the Munich-based company’s technology and scale the liquid air storage into the megawatt range. The pan-European deployment of the solution is also to be promoted.
Phelas CEO Justin Scholz said at the time:
