Reports surfaced in April that Meta, Facebook’s parent company, had acquired the Munich-based startup Presize – but both companies remained silent on the matter. The acquisition has now been confirmed.

Presize has developed a digital sizing advisor for online shops that measures a user’s clothing dimensions based on a body rotation in front of a smartphone camera. The solution aims to improve the fit of clothing sold online and reduce the number of returns. Returns represent a significant cost factor for the industry. According to its own claims, the Munich-based company scans 55 percent more accurately than competitors, and customer net revenue is expected to increase by around 10 percent through the use of the software.

With their solution, the founders Leon Szeli and Tomislav Tomov appeared on the Vox startup show “The Lion’s Den” in 2020 and convinced investor Carsten Maschmeyer to invest. For €650,000, Maschmeyer received 15 percent of the company’s shares. Following the show, Presize expanded the funding round to a total of nearly €2 million.

“It was an incredible roller coaster”

In April, Gründerszene reported that Meta had acquired the startup 100 percent, according to a commercial register entry. However, there was no official confirmation. The two founders have now made up for this via LinkedIn. In doing so, they also explained that the Presize solution is now only available within the Meta ecosystem.

Leon Szeli writes, among other things:

“The three-year journey with Presize was a unique experience. Who would have thought it would lead to a company where we can continue working on our technology and vision and have the potential to scale our technology and impact the lives of 3.6 billion people?”

And Tomislav Tomov shares:

“It was an incredible roller coaster! We started with 3 people and grew to 50 employees with over 100 million recommendations generated with our product.”

The two founders are now – as is the third co-founder Awais Shafique and part of the Presize staff – part of Meta’s fashion team. Their main headquarters will continue to be based in Munich.
