To support social startups as effectively as possible from an early stage, the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Work and Social Affairs launched the Social Startup Hub Bavaria two years ago – as the first central, state-funded point of contact for aspiring social entrepreneurs throughout Bavaria. The Social Entrepreneurship Akademie was commissioned with the pilot project, and over the last two years, founders in this field have been supported. Since September 1, 2024, the pilot project has now been made permanent.
Low-barrier point of contact & pooled expertise for Bavarian social entrepreneurs
Ulrike Scharf, the Bavarian State Minister for Family, Work and Social Affairs, said:
“Social entrepreneurship creates opportunities for our economy and at the same time serves the well-being of our society. The potential is great, and I fully support the promotion of social entrepreneurship. It is important that we continue the centerpiece of our concept for social entrepreneurship – the ‘Social Startup Hub Bavaria’. Founders have a low-barrier point of contact, can draw on pooled expertise, and can network throughout Bavaria. And it’s precisely this network that has grown rapidly over the last two years. The Social Entrepreneurship Akademie as the host organization is doing unique pioneering work, which we will continue to pursue together in the future!”
Over 215 interested founders have already been advised
The Social-Startup-Hub Bayern advises as a central point of contact for social startups, free of charge, everyone who pursues a social or ecological goal with their founding. The hub also connects interested founders and entrepreneurs with investors, experts, and support services from throughout Bavaria. Founders who don’t primarily see themselves as social entrepreneurs can also seek advice to find out whether their idea has the potential to create social impact. In addition, the Social Startup Hub regularly holds events throughout Bavaria to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with knowledge and tools to advance their ideas and network with the social entrepreneurship scene.
More than 215 interested founders have been supported, advised, and networked over the last two years on their path to a successful social startup through the Social-Startup-Hub Bayern, including the Munich-based startups Enna and Tildi.
