The online portal Spaces4Scaleups recently launched. Through the web platform and the underlying network, startups will in future be able to find flexible office space more easily and quickly, without needing a broker. On one hand, specially curated office offerings are presented for startups and made more accessible for scaleups. On the other hand, network partners from the real estate industry introduce themselves, so that founders know exactly who offers which services and what fits best.
The platform was implemented by Munich Business, the economic development agency of the city of Munich. The network partners from the real estate industry – led by Accumulata – and the Munich startup Shareyourspace, a platform for mediating unused office space, supported the effort.
Suitable offerings for scaleups
Clemens Baumgärtner, head of work and economic affairs at Landeshauptstadt München, on the launch of the Spaces4Scaleups website:
“Space searches are particularly challenging for scaleups: there are hardly any affordable, small-scale spaces available, and even then only for longer rental periods. We can help here: the new Spaces4Scaleups portal offers targeted support from a single source. With this modern web platform, we as the economic development agency, together with our committed network partners from Munich’s real estate industry, are making flexible and suitable office offerings more accessible to scaleups – and most importantly, faster.”
The network of private providers “Spaces for Scaleups” curated by Munich Business launched in 2021 to provide more offerings for scaleups with space requirements beyond 100 square meters. Through shortened search processes and direct mediation, startups save valuable time and costs. And the often necessary move to larger spaces is made easier. There are already 15 network partners on the platform, currently feeding around 20 demand-appropriate office offerings into the portfolio.
How space providers benefit from Spaces4Scaleups
One of them is Accumulata. Through the operator, startups find flexibly rentable, modern office space in various sizes at affordable prices. Bettina Stadler, managing director at Accumulata Operations, says:
“Through our engagement with Spaces4Scaleups and the associated support for startups, we are contributing to the future development of competitive business locations.”
And for operators themselves, the network offers great potential, Stadler explains further:
“Spaces4Scaleups offers space providers the unique opportunity to significantly enhance the future viability of their office properties. Participation not only enables short-term gains but also opens up long-term strategic advantages.”
After all, today’s startups are not only potentially long-term major customers, but also increase the attractiveness of existing properties.
Startup involved in platform development
Shareyourspace, a Munich-based startup, was also involved in implementing the platform. Tobias Wagner, founder and CEO at Shareyourspace, is pleased to provide a digital booking option for the project. He believes:
“Spaces4Scaleups is what it takes to quickly and efficiently supply innovative, young companies with space – the right workspace for the next growth leap – at preferential rates. So a special workspace service instead of gross floor area specifications, hundred-page rental contracts, and armies of brokers.”
