The AI startup Summ AI was honored at this year’s TUM Entrepreneurship Day with the TUM Presidential Entrepreneurship Award. The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, recognizes spin-offs based on research that demonstrate economic potential and have completed initial funding rounds. Summ AI meets these criteria with an innovative AI tool that converts complex content into plain language.

Summ AI: accessibility through AI

Demand for accessible communication is growing: authorities and companies in the EU must increasingly provide information in plain language. This form of language follows strict rules and is time-consuming to create. Summ AI addresses this problem with a custom-developed AI solution that automatically translates texts into plain language in compliance with the rules. Additionally, the tool can generate suitable illustrations to make content even more understandable.

The startup was founded in 2022 by Flora Geske, Vanessa Theel, and Nicholas Wolf. All founders have an academic background from the TUM Finance and Information Management program. Summ AI received support through the TUM Venture Lab Software & AI and the UnternehmerTUM programs Xplore and Xpreneurs.

Finalists Kewazo and Phlair with future technologies

Alongside Summ AI, two other startups made it to the final of the award ceremony. Kewazo presented a robot that automates material transport on construction sites while increasing efficiency and workplace safety. The system also collects data for project management. The team, with roots in construction engineering, computer science, and management, received support from Xpreneurs and the TUM US Venture Program, among others.

Phlair developed a new technology for CO2 capture from the air. At its core is an energy-efficient hydrolyzer that integrates into the direct air capture process and can be operated with solar systems. The technology offers industrial companies the opportunity to produce in a climate-neutral manner. The founding team received support from the TUM Venture Lab Chemspace.

The TUM Entrepreneurship Day provided space for exchange within the Munich innovation ecosystem alongside the award ceremony. Over 50 startups presented themselves to around 1,800 visitors. Discussions included the future of AI research and European sovereignty in space. The recognition of Summ AI exemplifies how scientific insights are translated into market-ready solutions – a central goal of entrepreneurship support at TUM.
