The Munich Battery Lab’s focus is on testing lithium-ion batteries for performance and stability under predefined environmental influences. The two Munich-based companies built a testing infrastructure based on the current state of the art for battery testing within six months. The laboratory enables the analysis of different cell types in batteries on more than 100 square meters with current strengths ranging from one to several hundred amperes. Ten temperature chambers can create test environments from -20 °C to +80 °C.

Munich Battery Lab: “supporting the expansion of renewable energy”

Customers of the companies will gain a better understanding of battery behavior and be able to optimize their battery development. Twaice itself also wants to generate additional data for its battery analytics through this.

“The Munich Battery Lab will make an important contribution to analyzing battery aging and behavior in depth. As part of the Twaice Battery Research Center, we can further improve our software and, together with our partner Vispiron, make an important contribution to environmentally friendly mobility and energy”,

says Twaice co-founder Michael Baumann. The second co-founder and CEO Stephan Rohr says:

“The laboratory also helps battery storage better balance the volatility of electrical grids and support the expansion of renewable energy.”

Munich’s second mayor Katrin Habenschaden said at the laboratory’s opening:

“I am very proud of this location. If you want to pursue sustainable and successful economic policy today, you have to invest every available euro in building innovation spaces. We can celebrate the Munich Battery Lab as a best-practice example.”
