Every year, Vivatech, one of Europe’s largest startup and technology events, publishes the “Top 100 Next Unicorns” list in collaboration with investment bank GP Bullhound. Together with support from Accel, Eurazeo, Northzone, and Partech, the two partners bring together 100 startups from Europe that have the potential to become the next unicorns. To date, approximately one-third of the companies that made the list from 2019 to 2023 have already achieved unicorn status.
This year’s potential unicorns come from 16 different countries, with the three leading countries being the United Kingdom (22 startups), France (21 startups), and Germany (14 startups). AI is one of the most important sectors in this area, followed by SaaS and digital media. Among the 14 young companies from Germany, two are from Munich: Avi Medical and Pricefx.
Avi Medical
Avi Medical operates modern, technology-enabled general practitioner clinics in Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin. Modern AI-driven technologies are used at several points. The software identifies the reason for the visit already in the booking process, digital patient forms are used, and medical data are automatically transferred to the company’s own platform. This is intended to relieve doctors of administrative tasks and allow them to spend around 20 percent more time with patients than other general practitioners. Founded in 2020 by Konux co-founder Vlad Lata and physician Julian Kley, the startup most recently raised 50 million euros in its Series B round, at an estimated valuation of 200 to 300 million euros. Avi Medical’s total funding stands at around 88.5 million euros.
Pricefx
Pricefx, based in Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn near Munich, offers cloud-based pricing software. An algorithm calculates the optimal price for products in online shops based on inventory levels, competitor prices, user data, and operating costs. This way, the startup wants to make the sales process significantly faster and more successful. The company, which was already founded in 2011, most recently secured around 57 million euros (65 million dollars) in 2020. At that time, the startup’s valuation was 236 to 355 million euros. Pricefx’s total financing amounts to around 115 million euros.
By the way: Munich Startup and Munich Business, the economic development agency of the city of Munich, are sending a delegation of several startups to Vivatech. If you’d like to be part of it, you can apply by March 22. You can find more information here.
