As a spin-off of TU München, Reverion has developed and patented a modular small-scale power plant for biogas. According to the company, its efficiency is 80 percent. When there is excess electricity on the grid, the system can also switch from power generation to power consumption in the shortest time. It then produces hydrogen or methane and serves as an energy storage facility and for stabilizing networks.

According to its own statements, Reverion has already received advance orders worth over 90 million euros (100 million dollars). With the latest funding of 56 million euros, the startup can now move into serial production and fulfill this order volume. In addition to EIP, Honda, and the EIC Fund, existing investors Extantia Capital, UVC Partners, Green Generation Fund, Doral Energy-Tech Ventures, and Possible Ventures also provided funds.

Ashwin Shashindranath, partner at Energy Impact Partners, explains:

“What Reverion has achieved is simply extraordinary. It’s an example of the market traction we look for in emerging climatetech companies.”

Reverion’s technology is particularly interesting for farmers and industrial customers. Farmers can increase the efficiency of their existing biogas plants, sell the liquefied CO2, and create a new source of income. In industry, the systems can be integrated into thermal and chemical processes and supply not only heat but also various gases for local use.

Silicon Canals quotes Stephan Herrmann, CEO and managing director of Reverion GmbH:

“The demand for our devices has been overwhelming in Germany, and we are not satisfied with that – we are preparing for a global push, with strategies tailored to the regulations of each region. In this funding round, we selected partners who provide capital and crucial expertise in scaling hardware. We are delighted to bring top-tier investors from the USA and Japan on board as we expand the company.”

Most recently, UVC Partners, Green Generation Fund, Extantia Capital, Doral Energy-Tech Ventures, and biomethane trader Landwärme invested 8.5 million euros in Reverion.
