With Yzr, the two founders invest in healthtech startups. The focus is particularly on companies that increase the efficiency and transparency of healthcare systems, make healthy living easier, or enable continuous change for better healthcare. Yzr searches across Europe for pre-seed, seed, and series A investment opportunities and offers founders not only capital but also healthcare-specific expertise. The investor has been active since the end of 2021, and has now announced the first closing of its first fund.
Yzr’s first fund has a target volume of 100 million euros, with 60 percent of that already secured according to Handelsblatt. Investors include the European Investment Fund, Bertelsmann Investments, Beiersdorf, various family offices, as well as industry and tech entrepreneurs. The name Yzr (pronounced “Waiser”) is intended to be a synthesis of the English “wise” and the “Isar”, thus referring to the expertise of the founders and their team as well as their roots in the Munich ecosystem.
From Teleclinic to Yzr
Physician Prof. Dr. Reinhard Meier founded Teleclinic in 2015 together with Katharina Jünger and Patrick Palacín. The startup launched an online health platform through which patients can speak with specialists from anywhere. At the beginning of the corona crisis, Teleclinic was able to significantly increase its user numbers. In summer 2020, the exit followed and the startup was acquired by Swiss Zur Rose Group. During this time, Meier continued to work as a radiologist, including at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Isar Klinikum, and most recently at Westpfalz Klinikum. With the Teleclinic exit, he then began his work as an investor.
Yzr co-founder Markus Feuerecker, in turn, is a venture capital expert with over 10 years of experience. Most recently he was vice president of DPE Deutsche private Equity. The team also receives further advice from various founders such as Max-Josef Meier (Finn) and Vlad Lata (Konux, Avi Medical) as well as former CEOs from the healthcare industry.
In addition to the fund business, Yzr also exists as a non-profit UG. With it, the founders organize non-profit activities in the medical field. The first project implemented this way helps deliver medical and other relief supplies to Ukraine that are often not covered by traditional donations in kind. In this way, Yzr has already delivered 5 ambulances and over 240 tons of relief supplies according to its own information.
