Investment
In assessing which startups are ready for investment, we base our evaluation on the “Dealroom Signal” from Munich Startup Insights. This evaluates companies based on four categories: “Timing” indicates how much time has passed since the last funding round; “Growth Rate” refers to the startup’s growth rate; “Founding Team” examines the founders and what successes they have already achieved; and “Completeness” refers to the data availability of the startup within the Insights. Startups can achieve a maximum score of 100 points in each of the four categories, as well as in the overall rating. (Image: Rawpixel / Freepik)
Klar Insights: Founded by Maximilian Rast, Cillié Burger, and Frank Birzle, Klar is developing a business intelligence platform for small and medium-sized e-commerce brands. To do this, the startup uses data from all relevant third-party data sources to provide brands with transparent insight into their finances, customer buying behavior, and marketing efficiency across all channels. The seed round for Klar was over two years ago: in March 2022, the Munich-based company received 2.3 million euros from Cherry Ventures and various business angels. But not only is the timing right for the next round; the team also impresses. Frank came on board as co-founder of Ottonova, Cillié as VP of Engineering, and Maximilian as CMO of the insurtech. Afterwards, Max became CMO at Yfood, Cillié became CTO at Teleclinic, before the three founded Klar together. The startup’s Dealroom Signal therefore reaches 82 points, with 100 points in the “Timing” segment and 99 points in the “Founding Team” segment. (Image: Klar Insights)
Qwello
Qwello: The e-mobility startup Qwello provides cities with turnkey charging solutions by establishing municipal partnerships through public concession agreements and offering both charging infrastructure and charging services. With this approach, the Munich startup is already active in many European markets and recently expanded to the UK, France, and Poland. However, nothing has happened in terms of funding for Qwello in a while. The startup last announced an investment at the end of 2021 – which brought in 50 million euros. The Dealroom Signal says it’s time for the next round and gives the startup 80 points. (Image: Qwello)
Alasco
Alasco has set itself the goal of bringing the construction and real estate industry to the level of digitally leading industries. For this purpose, the startup has developed cloud-based software that simplifies financial controlling and ESG management for project developers, builders, and asset managers. Since its founding in 2018, the Munich startup has received much support from investors. Funders such as HV Capital, Picus Capital, Global Founders Capital, and the Flixbus founders have already invested in Alasco. Most recently, the startup closed its Series B at the end of 2021 for 35 million euros – so the next investment could be coming. In the Dealroom Signal, Alasco reaches 79 points, with 100 points in the “Timing” segment. (Image: Alasco)
Air up
Air Up: Is just over 66 million euros enough to make water appetizing to Europeans and Americans? This is the question facing the Munich startup Air Up. With its drinking system, it gives water certain flavors purely through smell and wants to help soft-drink-spoiled consumers return to healthier drinking habits. With Pepsi, Ashton Kutcher, and Mila Kunis, Air Up has already received support that many other startups would envy. Most recently, in summer 2021, the startup raised 40 million euros. The Dealroom Signal stands at 78 points, here too with 100 points in the “Timing” segment. (Image: Air Up)
Zavvy
Zavvy leverages existing employee data to create employee programs that are integrated into workflows. To do this, the Munich-based company links the human resources information system (HRIS) with communication platforms such as Slack or Microsoft Teams. This is intended to enable companies to customize workflows to their individual needs. The founders Joshua Cornelius and Mehmet Yilmaz – also known to many as Freeletics co-founders – recently convinced investors of their startup, founded in 2021, in early 2022. At that time they raised 3.4 million euros. So it would be time for a new investment: The Dealroom Signal stands at 78 points. (Image: Zavvy)
