The seed round at Ocell is led by Aenu and Summiteer. In addition, business angels Maximilian Thaler, Max Viessmann, and the agriculture and forestry company Boscor are joining the Munich-based company. Previous business angels also participated in the funding round. David Dohmen, co-founder and co-CEO of Ocell, says:
“I’m very pleased about the trust of our investors, especially in these challenging times for many startups and other tech companies. With Aenu and Summiteer, we have experienced partners at our side who share our vision of more climate-friendly forestry.”
Ocell’s software digitizes processes for managing professional forestry operations. Aerial imagery and other data sources are processed with artificial intelligence to create digital twins of the respective forest. These are intended to provide information about forest growth and current CO2 storage performance, as well as predict optimal forest management. The goal is to optimize timber production and CO2 storage in forests. The software already manages more than 200,000 hectares of forest area.
Forest owners can use Ocell to “increase profitability while storing more carbon in their forests”
With the additional capital, the startup plans to expand its team and further develop its cloud-based software. In addition, Ocell aims to invest in product development and develop CO2 certificates.
Ferry Heilemann, founder and partner at investor Aenu, says:
“We are big fans of the Ocell team. Their comprehensive software for forest management and their state-of-the-art primary data collection enable commercial forest owners around the world to create high-quality CO2 certificates. This allows them to increase their profitability while storing more carbon in their forests.”
