The AI startup Delicious Data wants to fight food waste with machine learning and algorithms. Its software-as-a-service solution is designed to help restaurateurs plan their purchases more effectively. Using deep learning algorithms, the software analyzes customers’ historical data and combines it with additional external factors such as holidays or weather data to make precise forecasts for the future. In the catering market and bakery chains, Delicious Data has already acquired over 1,000 locations according to its own statements and achieved a reduction in food waste of around 30 percent.
With the €2.5 million in fresh capital raised in the Series A, the Munich-based company wants to advance its technological development and enter new markets. To this end, the team is to be expanded from currently 15 to 50 employees.
Delicious Data was founded in 2017 by Jakob Breuninger and Valentin Belser, who met while studying aerospace engineering together. Following an initial seed funding in 2019, the Munich-based AI startup secured another funding round in early 2021. The amount of both rounds is not known.
“820,000 meals saved”
Valentin Belser, founder of Delicious Data, comments on the current funding round of Delicious Data:
“We are proud and delighted about the investors’ confidence in our solution. This confirms that we are on the right track. With our partners, we have already saved 820,000 meals, which corresponds to approximately 1,000 tons of CO2 equivalents. We want to continue this trend through growth in the DACH region and beyond.”
“Impact investing is more than just a trend”
And Carsten Rudolph, managing director of Baystartup, says:
“Impact investing is more than just a trend. In addition to a sound and scalable business model, Delicious Data makes a quantifiable contribution in terms of sustainability. This combination also convinced investors, enabling the team to continue pursuing their mission.”
