Pina Earth, market leader for certified climate protection projects in German forests, and green energy provider Yello have launched a long-term partnership to promote forest transformation in Germany. The goal of the collaboration is to make German forests more resilient to the impacts of climate change through sustainable projects and increase their CO₂ storage potential.

Climate-resilient forests through innovative partnership

The cooperation aims to transform monocultures into climate-resilient mixed forests. To this end, Yello is investing in four forest projects in Germany more are to follow. Through the cooperation, more than two million square meters of forest are being made climate-resilient for the long term today. Pina Earth relies on innovative digital solutions and scientific forest growth simulations to monitor project progress and document it transparently. Gesa Biermann, founder and CEO of Pina Earth, explains:

“With Yello, we have found a partner that sees climate protection not as an obligation, but as an opportunity. This partnership demonstrates how companies can take responsibility while exciting their customers about genuine climate protection.”

The support from Pina Earth is particularly important because healthy forests not only serve as CO₂ storage but also strengthen biodiversity and remain as habitats for many species. The initiative ensures that these forests are protected long-term and play a key role in the fight against climate change.

Climate protection contribution for Yello customers

From 2025 onwards, every newly concluded contract for household electricity, heating electricity, and gas at Yello will automatically include a climate contribution of €2.50 per contract. This contribution flows directly into Pina Earth’s projects and promotes sustainable forest management. Through this measure, Yello customers are actively involved in climate protection. They support increasing ecological diversity in existing forests as well as reforestation of damaged areas.

“It is important to make positive changes visible on your own doorstep to inspire enthusiasm for climate protection. The climate contribution is a concrete measure that we are implementing together with our customers”,

says Patrick Bottermann, head of sustainability at Yello.

The cooperation demonstrates how companies from different sectors can work together to develop innovative and practical solutions for climate protection. It highlights how large companies can also take concrete steps with their customers toward a sustainable future.
