The Kata app from Munich-based medtech startup Visionhealth is a class IIa medical device certified app that specifically supports people with chronic lung diseases during inhalation. For therapy success, correct use of the inhalation device is crucial. With incorrect inhalation, less active substance reaches the lungs, which can lead to more severe disease progression over time. Repeated patient training with the respective inhalation devices is often not possible in practice due to lack of resources.
This is where the Kata app comes in. Using the smartphone camera, the application supports correct inhalation with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring that the correct medication dose reaches the lungs. Afterwards, Kata informs in text and image how successfully an inhalation was performed. Daily documented symptom and therapy records can also support doctors in treatment decisions.
“With 100 years of experience in treating lung diseases”
The app is adapted to the most common inhalation devices and can improve the therapeutic handling of approximately 75 percent of devices on the market, according to Visionhealth.
“The innovative Kata app is the ideal complement to Boehringer Ingelheim’s broad inhalation portfolio, which ensures that patients are optimally supported in using their inhalation medicines and that the active substances reach the lungs”,
says Martin Beck, Head of Human Pharma Germany at Boehringer Ingelheim. And Sabine Häußermann, CEO of Visionhealth, said:
“With 100 years of experience in treating lung diseases, Boehringer Ingelheim is a leader in the field of respiratory diseases. We are delighted and proud to work with such a strong partner to market our Kata app in Germany.”
