Full Stack Engineer (f/m/d)

About us
aigard’s AI-native managed services help companies handle high volumes of similar consumer or customer claims, mass litigation, and other corporate liability risks largely according to economic criteria. The initial go-to-market focus is on regulated industries in the DACH region, including banks, insurance companies, and gaming. However, this is set to expand in the future. We operate at the intersection of law firms, corporate legal departments, and corporate finance departments.
aigard is being built by three founders:
Adrian Hesse – former McKinsey Associate Partner, Financial Services
Maximilian Metz – former McKinsey Engagement Manager, Head of M&A and Analytics at a PE-backed portfolio company in the regulated sector
Dr. Günter Schmid – former CFO and Chairman of listed and PE-backed companies, co-founder of Kerberos Compliance
We are not starting from scratch: clients are already being served with thousands of proceedings from within the founders' network. Based on these learnings, we are currently scaling up with dedicated sales and proprietary products.
The role
You are our first technical hire and will bring the product from the first line of code into production. Your main focus is the frontend: for us, the UI is the product and must be usable by lawyers and case workers without training. The second focus is on APIs and integrations, which bring the data together. This is not a purely executing developer role: there is no one writing specifications for you — you gather requirements directly from conversations with founders and clients.
What you will be responsible for
The product frontend. The cockpit for legal departments, CFOs, and operations: case and claims management, deadlines and status tracking, scenarios and forecasts, day-to-day reporting at the click of a button
APIs and integrations. Connection to client case, contract, payment, and CRM systems as well as law firms, law firm software, debt collection, and settlement agents: designing interfaces, defining data models, keeping imports and reconciliation stable
Making the data pipeline visible. Turning legal briefs, reminder notices, and formal decisions into structured cases — visualised in the interface so that a case worker can spot and correct uncertainty
0 → Production. Deployment, monitoring, operations. What you build, you keep running until the team grows
Client, audit, and team. You join client meetings, answer security questionnaires, pass technical due diligence by procurement, and eventually build out the engineering team
Our technical context
Greenfield with full decision-making authority over the stack. Our expectation: TypeScript end-to-end, React/Next.js, PostgreSQL, LLM pipelines for extraction and classification. Convince us of something better, and we’ll do it differently
Boring tech where it doesn’t decide anything, effort where it makes the difference. AI is part of your way of working, not just for autocomplete
Regulated context from day one: Multi-tenancy isolation, least privilege, encryption, comprehensive logging — prerequisites for the first contract, not later hardening
What you bring to the table
Seniority and 0 → production. 3+ years of product development, including 1+ with overall technical responsibility (Lead, Staff, CTO, first engineer). At least one product built and launched live by yourself
Senior-level frontend skills. Deep React and TypeScript knowledge: state management, performance, tables, and filters that hold up even with tens of thousands of cases. You can build a UI fit for a board presentation even without a designer
APIs and data. You design interfaces rather than just consuming them: data models, versioning, edge cases, idempotency — even against third-party, poorly documented client systems. Plus PostgreSQL and time-critical logic under concurrency
Backend and operations. You write server-side logic in TypeScript and/or Python yourself; you have operated cloud infrastructure, IaC, CI/CD, and monitoring on your own
LLM in production. You have run an extraction or RAG pipeline in production, including evaluation, quality benchmarking, and cost control. Not just from side projects
German C1+, client contact, Munich. Legal briefs and client meetings are in German; you represent the company in front of clients and stand your ground in technical audits. Primarily on-site in Munich, with a valid work permit for Germany
Nice to have — strong plus, but not strictly required
Regulated industries (banking, insurance, healthcare) including client audits, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 / TISAX, deep document processing (OCR, layout, German domain-specific texts), enterprise sales cycles, early-stage experience in a team of under 10.
What you get
The role of the first engineer in a company that already has a network, market access, and paying clients
Equity participation possible, in addition to a fixed salary
Full decision-making authority over the stack, direct collaboration with three founders instead of intermediate management layers, and client contact from day 1
Long-term perspective to build and lead the engineering team
