The coworking market in Munich is diverse. Alongside well-known names like WeWork and Mindspace, which want to appeal not only to freelancers but also to local corporates with their offerings, there are also coworking spaces here that have specialized in their focus on a particular subject area or target group. A brief overview.
Werk1
Werk1 describes itself as “Munich’s most startup-friendly place.” On around 4,000 m² of space, Werk1 primarily offers team office space for startups. But freelancers and creatives who need a workspace — but not a permanent one — are also in the right place in the Werksviertel: either in the “Silent Space” directly under the roof or in the “Communication Space” next to the café, where small groups can also collaborate. As a coworker at Werk1, you also get access to events, networking meetings, and thus to the Werk1 community, which is certainly one of the most exciting in Munich from a startup perspective.
WeWork
WeWork is one of the “big players” on Munich’s coworking market. The American coworking giant is currently represented in over 100 cities with around 600 office locations, two of which are in the Bavarian state capital. WeWork wants to convince not only with modern office space in central locations but also with its international community of over 200,000 members.
Mindspace
Anyone who has always dreamed of being able to work in the immediate vicinity of the Viktualienmarkt can now turn this dream into reality. Because with Mindspace there is a coworking provider that offers space for more than 250 members here on two floors and 1,600 m² of space. The Israeli coworking provider is also represented at Stachus and Salvatorplatz with additional locations.
Design Offices
Founded in Nuremberg in 2008, Design Offices is now represented in eleven German cities, including five locations in Munich. A sixth location is set to open in the Werksviertel in spring 2019. In addition to classic office and coworking workspaces, Design Offices offers event spaces at some locations that can be rented.
Impact Hub
Sendling as a mecca for many Munich social entrepreneurs — might sound strange, but it’s true! Because the Munich Impact Hub attracts primarily social-purpose-oriented entrepreneurs who are looking not only for a workspace but also for a network of like-minded people. Sexy salad sessions or a falafel pitch at lunchtime — the full event calendar shows that here people don’t just work next to each other, but Impact Hub members are also supposed to benefit from one another.
Mates
Munich’s creative scene also has a point of contact when it comes to coworking. Or actually two, because Mates is now represented twice in the city: in Schwabing and at Isartor. Flexible work packages can be booked, from a spontaneous drop-in to a resident workspace. The community spirit is also being promoted and is intended to help Mates members find new employees and current job offers in the talent pool.
Media Lab
What Impact Hub is for social entrepreneurship, Media Lab is for everyone pursuing projects in the field of media. Located in east Munich, Media Lab offers an open space for students and graduates, career starters and career changers. Only prerequisite: you are working on a concrete project related to digital media and have been accepted as a Media Lab member. But: registration for the open space is possible at any time, even if you don’t have a concrete idea yet.
