The edtech startup Edurino has developed a learning app that gives children from age 4 a hybrid approach to reading and writing using a stylus and physical figures on mobile devices. Parents can track their children’s learning progress on their own devices and regulate screen time. The app announces the end of playtime and shuts down after screen time expires. This way, not only basic skills in reading, writing, and counting are taught, but also the proper use of digital media. The learning content was developed by the startup, founded in 2021 by Franziska Steiner and Irene Klemm, together with educators and other experts. Edurino’s investors, who most recently gave the startup 10.5 million euros, include Btov Partners, Emerge Education, and business angels such as Verena Pausder. (Image: Edurino)
Studysmarter
Studysmarter offers a comprehensive learning platform that links the functionalities of many apps and tools together: content management, content processing for creating interactive learning materials, statistics, and intelligent NLP algorithms. The platform is not tied to specific subjects and can therefore be used by students of all disciplines. Students can upload their learning materials to the Studysmarter platform. These are then analyzed and processed by the Studysmarter algorithm. As a result, students can access automatically generated smart studying content in real time. Through interaction with the content, students can view statistics about their current learning level and progress and increase learning motivation through gamification features. In 2020, the young edtech company completed a seed funding round in the millions. In mid-2021, a Series A funding of 12 million euros followed. With the fresh capital, Studysmarter wanted to work on its internationalization, among other things. As announced at the end of last year, the startup has now reduced its team. A large part of the positions were eliminated in the Content and SEO area, and cooperation with freelancers, student employees, and interns was ended. (Photo: Studysmarter)
Easy-Tutor
Easy-Tutor offers an online tutoring platform for students and their parents. Users can choose from more than 1,000 active and individually vetted tutors. The startup was founded in 2017 by Jessica Contento and Massimo Cancellara. At the end of 2022, the edtech startup announced the completion of its Series A funding round of 4.8 million euros. Cooperative partners also play an important role in Easy-Tutor’s development. According to the company, approximately 200 partner schools and 40 percent of all Bundesliga clubs – including FC Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt – use Easy-Tutor in their care offerings for children and young people. In addition, companies are being sought for partnerships. They should provide Easy-Tutor with greater visibility through their target group relevance, while their customers benefit from the tutoring service. In the past, the startup has already worked with renowned retailers such as Edeka, Müller Handels GmbH, and MediaMarktSaturn. (Photo: Easy-Tutor)
Simpleclub
Simpleclub offers a knowledge platform for students from grade 5 and up through its app. The application includes numerous offerings for students who are struggling, ranging from practice exercises and summaries to explanatory videos and preparation for the Abitur and Realschulabschluss. For some time, the Munich startup has also offered programs for apprentices and dual students. Here, Simpleclub works with partners such as Deutsche Bahn, Brillux, the IHK, and Deutscher Sparkassenverlag. The startup was founded in 2015 by Alexander Giesecke and Nicolai Schork. According to company information, two million students from fifth grade use the learning content from the Munich startup every month, and teachers in Germany are also said to use the content in their classes. Simple Club recently completed a funding round. The startup received 7.2 million euros from 10x Founders and HV Capital, among others. (Photo: Simpleclub)
Jana Krotsch, Ubimaster
The tutoring platform of Ubimaster caters to the needs of students and apprentices in a tailored manner and at fixed prices. This means that users are connected directly with a qualified tutor instead of merely accessing learning plans and explanatory videos. According to the startup, it takes a maximum of two minutes for the right contact to respond – and that seven days a week.
Ubimaster offers its products to both parents and companies. The latter can integrate the service into their employee benefit programs and thus support all children of the workforce, regardless of their parents’ income. Since its founding in 2019, Ubimaster has, according to its own information, already given more than 10,000 students access to better education, with approximately 75 percent improving their grades thanks to the Munich company. In October 2022, the edtech startup founded by Jana Krotsch completed a seed funding round of 2.5 million euros.
