According to the authors of the ranking, approximately 10,000 business angels are active in Germany. By analyzing the commercial register between July 2019 and July 2022, the portal identified those 150 angels who invested in at least seven German startups during that period.
The Flixbus founders’ startup investments
Through their joint investment company SEK Ventures, Flixbus founders Jochen Engert, Daniel Krauss and André Schwämmlein have invested in a range of Munich startups across various industries:
Recently, SEK Ventures participated in a 4 million euro round at Awake Mobility. The Munich-based company has developed a hardware and software solution that uses real-time vehicle data collection to detect the condition of buses. This is intended to improve the reliability, punctuality and environmental friendliness of buses.
The edtech startup Simpleclub completed a Series A financing round of 7.2 million euros in July, with the support of the Flixbus founders among others. Simpleclub’s learning app provides educational videos, practice exercises and summaries from fifth grade onwards.
Last year, the Munich angel investors participated in a seed round for Truckoo, a platform for buying and selling commercial vehicles.
SEK Ventures joined early at the Wellster Healthtech Group, an operator of medical online portals. Later, high-profile investors like Sevenventures followed.
The three Munich founders were also early investors in Freewaycamper: they participated in the camping startup’s first investment round.
SEK Ventures invested in the SaaS platform for website optimization Ryte in early 2021. Co-founder and CEO Andreas Bruckschlögl was delighted at the time with “the support and trust of such renowned investors”.
With Skyroads (formerly D3 Technologies), the Flixbus founders have another mobility sector startup in their portfolio alongside Awake Mobility: The Munich company is developing a traffic management system for air taxis.
